Types of airport in Vietnam

Airports in Vietnam are divided into 2 types:

  • Civil airports: Our country currently has about 12 international airports and 10 domestic airports to meet the needs of normal flights. Civilian airports also have a section dedicated to military operations and dual-use - military operations when necessary.
  • Military airports: These airports are solely for air defense training purposes and are managed by the Ministry of Defense. There are currently 14 military airports of this type in Vietnam.

Currently, Vietnam has about 12 international airports, with five of the most important being Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) and Da Nang International Airport (Da Nang), Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City), Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) and Phu Quoc International Airport (Kien Giang).

  • Noi Bai Airport (HAN): is the most important and largest airport in Vietnam's northwestern region. The Noi Bai airport is located in the Soc Son district of Hanoi, 35 kilometers from the city center.
  • Noi Bai airport has a service capacity of 16-25 million passengers per year, with modern invested facilities such as duty-free stalls, phone charging areas, sleeping boxes, free water plants, and so on.
  • Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN): is located on Truong Sa Street in Ho Chi Minh City's Ward 2, Tan Binh District. In terms of area, terminal capacity, and passenger traffic, this is Vietnam's largest international airport.

  • Da Nang International Airport (DAD): is located on Duy Tan Street in the Hoa Thuan Tay Ward of the Hai Chau District. This is Vietnam's third-largest airport, covering an area of 842ha.
  • International Airport Van Don (VDO), which has been in operation since 2018, is regarded as Vietnam's first private airport. Van Don International Airport, located 60 kilometers from Ha Long City and adjacent to the Van Don - Mong Cai - Ha Long highway, has a favorable location and long-term development potential not only domestically but also internationally.
  • Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC): is the third international airport in the South, and it is modern and well-built.
